F&%$ing Figure It Out

I have to share a story that makes me laugh and trust Jesus a little bit more.

We've broken records with snowfall in Juneau and I feel like she has finally given up and decided to wear pajamas to work. Our street hasn't been plowed after this latest dump so there's 8-10 inches of snow on our road. I'm not complaining but it means we can't drive our van anywhere because it's too low to the ground.

Last night we had to rearrange cars and naturally the van got stuck in the road. It didn't block the road but there was some pushing and rocking involved.

Normally, Juneau is a generous and loving community and if a car slows down seeing us struggle, they would stop and help if they could.

Well, last night a truck slowed down while we were wrestling the van out of the snow and they rolled down their window, and yelled out,

What are you doing? F%#&ing figure it out.

Then, she rolled up the window and pulled into the driveway several houses down. I know I should be indignant, but I can't stop laughing.

What would motivate someone to do that? I'm trying to put the best possible spin on it; the weather has put many on edge so she might have been grumpy. Who knows what was going on. Maybe I'll walk down the street with a plate of cookies someday and ask.

But, here's my real problem. From now on when I see someone struggling, I'm going to hear that woman yelling at them, "F$#@ing figure it out!" And that upsets me, but it also makes me giggle.

I'm not going to advise yelling this at people who are struggling, but I will tell you that it motivated Kirt and I to figure it out instead of bickering, which would have been an easy response in a stressful situation. Her response was so outlandish that we were able to laugh and keep moving forward.

There's no moral to this story, but it was a good reminder that people are living with a lot of pain and anger and the faithful response is probably laughter and then trying a little harder to figure it out.
